![]() If you want to recover all of the files on a partition, then select Search and hit enter. You are given a list of the partitions on your selected hard drive. In most cases (ext2/3, NTFS, FAT, etc.) you should select Intel and press Enter. Last edited by doas777 June 23rd, 2011 at 02:40 PM. PhotoRec asks you select the type of partition to search. PhotoRec is part of TestDisk, and is a file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. same goes for most source code file types. Since php files are just text files and text data does not have header/footer marks (they are just raw ascii/unicode data), no data carving utility will be able to reliably recover them. fragmentation can also interfer with this task, as the header and footer data are on differant parts of the disk, but the infomation linking the fragments has been lost with the filesystem tables. for data carving to work, the file needs to have predictable data structures that indicate the beginning and end of the file, so they only work for formatted data types (usually binary) like images that have header and footer "marks" that indicate teh beggining and end of the file. ![]() Photorec and the tools that inameiname suggested are data carving utilities. just be sure to recover to a differant drive than the one you lost the data off. ![]() since it recovers both the file data and the metadata that the filesystem uses for naming and fragment location, it should result in complete recovery assuming your disk is recoverable. If you deleted a whole partition, testdisk is the best tool as it is for recovering the entire partition in addition to any files on it.
